American Councils for International Education: ACTR/ACCELS is pleased to announce the presentation of a major gift from the Kosovo-based Dukagjini Group for its Kosovo American Education Fund (KAEF). Three affiliates of Dukagjini Group ― Dukagjini Corporation, Peja Beer, and Dukagjini Insurance ― are the primary donors, contributing 160,000 EUR over a period of two years to the program (approximately $256,000 USD). Peja Beer has pledged 80,000 EUR, and Djukagjini Group, 80,000. Ekrem Lluka, president of Dukagjini Corporation, is a leader in the Kosovo community, and this special funding commitment to support the country’s development of intellectual capital will help to ensure Kosovo’s vibrant economic future.
In the two weeks leading up to Parliamentary elections in Georgia, alumni of FLEX and the Global Undergraduate Exchange Program in Eurasia and Central Asia (UGRAD) carried out the project “Educating First Time Voters in Georgia.” The project was funded by the U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Section (PAS) with the aim of educating first time voters and promoting participation of youth in elections.
On June 17th 2008 President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko met Ukrainian high school graduates who had top scores in nationwide external testing conducted for the first time in the history of Ukraine. In his congratulatory address the President said, "I am certain that you represent the best generation of Ukrainians."
